The curtains will protect us and if not the curtains the glass doors the storm windows the blankets we stored in a distant closetdo you have the key? place your hand in my aching hand we’ll be lovers for life and if not we will fix the falling roof that tap where the water is always cold it is freezing this morning the heater will protect us did you pay the bill? did you dream of me as you curled too tight in the bedsome terrified child all the children keep running to school or a job or a flight they must take: I’ll be back tomorrow back next week or next year the time will protect us it is running out |
